Am visiting Bangkok in January for 2 weeks and would appreciate your advice.

Where are the nicest beaches / places to spend a 2 week vacation.

I am seeking a paradise type beach / good snorkeling / bit of nightlife.

I realise that there are guide books available but you work here and know the area first hand and quite honestly, I have used guide books before and don't trust them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou in advance......

Phuket.
Nice beaches.
Great place to explore.
Bigger than other islands.
There are a lot more possibilities.

^ Phuket is always a good idea ...

especially in light of last year's tsunami, which really hurt business.

They are very much back in business now, and need visitors:

If I had a couple weeks holiday & wanted to go diving ...

I think I'd fly to Phuket first, spend a few days there on tedkarma's tab Laughing

and then hop around a little on the Andaman Islands:

Hello there, I'm currently teaching in Wuhan, China, and am lucky enough to get nearly 2 months holiday starting on 1st Jan! Am flying to bangkok on the 11th and heading to Phuket on the 13th, those are my only definite plans so far.
Any suggestions? It's my first time in Thailand, and as I'm staying for 30 days I have a fair bit of time to explore different parts!
What's the weather like at the mo? About 4 degrees here, so craving a bit of warmth and my bikini is gathering dust.

Any suggestions for place to see or stay at or check out will be welcome!

Thanx

Caroline aka Babino

Ted,

I am planning to go to Thailand in February. What is the best way to get to Phuket from Bangkok? What is the price?

For me - flying is the best alternative.

Depending on how far in advance you book Air Asia can be quite a bargain. But don't rely on them for return connections as they are known for late departures and cancelled flights. Bangkok Air - I usually take - about US$100 round trip. Pricey okay - but good safe clean planes - on time. Nok Air is a cheap alternative - better at connections. I think . . . nokair.com, but not sure.

Bus: ice ice cold - very loud non-stop music - 12 hours over night. Usually less than US$20. Quite similar to hell.

Train - no direct connection - not convenient.

Rental Car - a great drive. Budget Rent a Car is my favorite.

Hope that helps.
