Get a load of this one.
After reports in the Jakarta post last week about how the Indonesian government are looking at amending the regulations to make it easier for foreigners married to Indonesians yesterday they ran this story.
The supreme court is about to put to the government a scheme whereby foreign men wishing to marry Indonesian women must pay a $50,000 bond. They apparently got this scheme from Egypt.
Where the money goes or what it is for is not mentioned beyond that it goes into a bank account.
This scheme is really the craziest load of rubbish I have seen the Indo government come up with. And they are very good at crazy schemes.
So if you come to Indo don't fall in love guys. I think it's ok for the girls, you don't have to pay. |

While in China, I was asked for 50.000 from my girlfriend's mother - but that was in renminbi & NOT US dollars
Still, I didn't pay and it was my cue to leave! |

Fifty grand for a wife sounds about right, since I'm sure we've all met an Indonesian girl who expected a new handphone or TV set after knowing us for five minutes.
Still, it's a bit of a mark-up on the going rate for human trafficking.
And, of course, it's the perfect excuse for the happily single guy to avoid committment.
I wonder how many more single mothers are going to be left behind when the promises and visas run out. |

I have done a bit of checking on this and it seems that Indonesian maths is up to it's usual standard.
The Jakarta post quoted Egypt Pounds 25,000
Indo Rupiah 500.000.000 = US$50,000
Trouble is 25,000 Egyptian Pounds is only US$ 4,333
What is more strange is that the Egyptian governmet web site makes no reference to any charges other than a few dollars for processing the documents.
I wish Indo would follow Egypt though as they give a 3 or 5 year visa to the spouse of an Egyptian National, with no charge for this and renwable indefinitly.
Indonesia gives a six month social visa but this must be renewed in Indo after two months and every month after that up to six months. Then it,s back to Singapore or whereever to apply for a new one.
This is not much fun after a few years and quite costly. About Rp400.000 per renewal plus a trip to Sing every six months.
Gila Lagi!!!!! |

This government is pathetic .
Instead of building new revenue-making ventures, they resort to the old: let's just take money from the bule.
Indonesia's new Political Slogan :
Come to Indonesia foreign money, foreigners go to hell! |
