If there are any Canadians there, could you please tell me about your experiences with the Turkish Consulate in Ottawa. I am curious to hear how long it actually takes them to finish the process.

Welcome to Turkey. I moved to Turkey from Canada last year and can give you details on the visa process and other questions you may have. Give me a pm and I will give you details. Take care eh! Fellow Canuck.

If you have all the required documents, then the authorization from Ottawa should take about 3-4 weeks to process. Times can vary though, so this is an 'average' time.

Finally, work permit approval faxed to local office.

Let me see... it took almost exactly 3 months.....which to be honest is what the person at the consulate in Houston told me.

I did have to apply here in the US although I was living in Canada for the interim. I do not know if this is only for Americans, but I was told I had to pick it up from a US Consulate ( of my choice) even if I was not residing in the US.

I suppose this means I will finally start to work.

I look forward to actually meeting some of you folks when I get there.

Any hints or advice of what to pack or bring......????

Thanks for all the responses in my silly questions topic.

Cheers!

Don't pack or bring too much stuff.

One suitcase and one carry on bag should be enough.

The total weight should not exceed 30kg.

Some carriers now restrict your suitcase to around 20kg total.

You can get all the stuff you need in Turkey, much of it cheaper.

Travel light, and be mobile.

Ghost in Taichung, Taiwan.
