Nice.. It sounds like Ghost has a challenging job there in Taiwan. It sounds like the students there are just the opposite of the university students here. The university students here are either great or terrible. Loud, disrespectful, and an attention span of about 20 minutes.. and that is for the ones that want to learn. It is almost like teaching reform school kids. Any suggestions on how to tame these beasts?

One sympathizes with you, because one has been there and seen it and lived it. It is not easy, but it is no use getting annoyed because you will not be able to change them - the Turkish students - because most of them come from families where they are spoiled from day one...and you cannot change that.

Teaching Univ. students (in Turkey) is, indeed, a lottery, because you can land up with very bright individuals or the opposite - immature adolescent types.

Ghost recalls some of the students in Eski. who attended prestigious Anadolou Univ. - well these students preferred to waste most of their days in the numerous coffee/tea shops around the river walk area. A Professor at Anadolou Univ. told ghost that most students there hated to read books. Ghost also recalls that on days of football matches the classes would be depleted as well.

The problem for poor ghost in Taiwan is the sheer boredom of the place. It is just not a pleasant environment at all, and although the people are not mean or nasty, it is difficult/impossible to relate to the Taiwanese - not because we don't want to, but because they are basically not interested in us....truth, and we have no common interests. Most of us feel like we're from another planet here.

The students are passive and have little or nothing to say in class...it is really a difficult process to get them to speak - one basically has to spoon feed them...and even then, the result is a forced whisper which comes out...arghhhhh!! (and try evaluating that....?) You get the picture...

Ghost in Taichung, Taiwan.

Prestigous?

It is not even in the top five in Turkey.
