Hello, I'm a history prof. w/ 5 years of teaching experience who just wants to escape the U.S. and live in Brazil or somewhere else in Latin America. (Sound familiar?) I've already lived in Rio; so I'm thinking one starts to look for work in February as nothing gets going until the end of Carnaval (March 1 this coming year, no?). As I have little experience teaching English as a foriegn language, I probably need to get "certified." But would it be better to do the TEFL/CELTA course in Nov./Dec. or in Jan./Feb. to find work for Brazil's fall semester? Also, are Sao Paulo and Salvador on pretty much the same schedule as Rio? (That is, Carnaval concludes the summer and then academic work begins anew?) |
