173 hours a month and you will be compensated 6000RMB for all that work (After the probation period). So thats 6000 divided by 173 and you get the grand total of around 35RMB per hour. But for the first three months your on 5000RMB So 5000 divided by 173 and you will be on 28RMB per hour!! You've got to be kidding!!! Which province is this job in? I wouldn't even consider this contract!!

Sorry to pick on you but your calculation is that of a pure amateur, and a newbie's at that!
If you want to work out the hourly rate then you divide the sum total by the number of CONTACT HOURS; that alone changes the picture you drew enormously.
Furthermore, Andee would stand to be housed for free (I assume) plus she would get paid during some holidays during the entire year, plus she would be paid airfare.
This doesn't mean I have changed my poriginal scepticism. Still, I object to such black-painting. |

Roger, sorry to rain on your parade, but I think your calculation is wrong. Why would you divide the amount by the contact hours? Andee has to work 173 hours a month. It doesn't matter if these hours are contact, office or whatever. The fact is that it's 173 hours a month. If the office hours were optional then you could divide the amount by the number of contact hours. But they are mandatory. If we used your calculation then Andee is working for free in regards to the office hours. Better check your calculator Roger!!
True there is free housing and airfare allowance. But doesn't everyone get those? My calculation is based on the hours worked on the salary made. |

| I think you should always factor in living allowance or free rent/utilities when calculating your hourly salary. After all, in most countries, that is an after-pay expense. You can easily tack on an extra 1000-1500 per month to add into your total. But that's still an awful low wage. And I agree, work is work. I have (supposedly) 25 contact hours per week, but I put in AT LEAST an extra 5 hours per week of copying, lesson planning, grading, etc. My salary and free place are more than enough to keep me happy, but I consider my non-contact hours work just as much as I do the contact/teaching hours. |
