Wilma on her way! looks like I might still get a chance to test my leaks this season.
What happens if there are more than 26 named storms in a year do they go back to the As? |

We are in the current projected path. We had Emily in July, and now Wilma in October. Looks like bookend hurricanes this year. Price we pay to live in such a beautiful spot, I guess. |

Hey Melee, you're not suggesting that Oaxaca would feel the effects of Wilma, being so far awy, are you? Even over here on the other coast?
I hope not, because my partner and I are in the middle of re-doing our house-all our stuff is under the palapa and patio. Yikes!
And speaking of M, how come she's not on Dave's anymore? |

My corner of the state of Oaxaca is strategically located to get light rains on the fringe of pretty much every hurricane. whether it be in the gulf or the pacific. We're also far enough from the sea, that we'll survive the melting of the ice caps... |

For those of you in the path of this deadly hurricane, our thoughts are with you. Hang in there and please keep us updated at first chance you get. I see on the news the tourists are being taken out of Cancun and Cozumel in droves.
We have really dodged a bullet in my location on the Pacific Coast this year though the season isn't quite over yet. We did get some heavy rains from the storm that barrelled across the Baja earlier in the month. The surfers were in 7th heaven. |

Here on the Oaxacan coast, there's hardly a cloud in the sky today. |

Saw the weather report today... its got to be bad in the Yucatan if even Fox News has someone down there! My heart goes out to all of the people in that area... esp. now with all the "donor fatigue" from the other hurricanes and earthquakes.
Time to send a donation check to the Mexican Red Cross. |

Yes, it has been devestating. How unfortunate for them once again. The eye hung out over Playa del Carmen for ages and the last report I read was that the storm was moving so very slowly across the tip of the Yucatan wreaking havoc. I sure hope that everyone is okay. The tourists are complaining but at least they are alive. One tourist said he wanted to "take matters into his own hands". Hello? 100 MPH winds blowing outside, and nowhere to go and nothing to do but wait. I wonder what he thought he would possibly do under such "act of god" circumstances.
I hope Playa del Soul will post as soon as he can to let us know he and his family are okay. Many people were moved to shelters in Merida so maybe Tim will update us too on what took place there. Some brave fellows with generators were keeping forums and the news media up to date as long as they possibly could luntil late last night. Some really telling photos were posted online at one or two of the local forums. |

Maybe PlayadelSoul can check in with a report once they get power back to Carmen. Lucky I didn't go to Cancun as planned. I would've been there right now. I read that they had lots of time to get people into shelters, so I hope it turns out ok. |
