What level are you looking for Aussiegirl - university, middle school or primary? The information is probably still a state secret. I trust we won't be treated like Libby if we somehow reveal it.
In 2004 I tried to find out the final date of classes. I thought that the FAO might know. I noticed here at Dave's that at one school, they were finishing June 18th so I asked her if that was the date for us as well. Later I heard that she told the other foreign teachers that 'Gerry said it was June 18th.' |

Ocker chick,
I currently teach at a Middle School in Zhejiang province and my contract ends on January 15th. This is 2 weeks before the Chinese New Year (January 29th, 2006). I will be restarting next semester at my new school in mid February in Tianjin (final date tba). So, maybe it could be mid Jan. to mid Feb.? (????) |

Middle/high school. The Chinese New Year is 26th Jan.
Our school finishes on 20th Jan, giving a 22 week semester, the longest on record for us.
I asked for the starting date for the new term. Not decided.
You'll have to ask your school I'm sorry to say., for example last term the finishing date went from 6 June to 10 June to 15 June. |

I'm planning on going back to Canada for Xmas/Spring Festival. When I ask for term end/start dates so I can plan my travel I get "It hasn't been decided yet." My guess is mid to late February but don't take my word for it. Different schools have different dates. Best guess after two years in China is that I may get lucky and find out the day before, subject to change. |

according to this site http://www.qppstudio.net/bankholidays20052006/china.htm
The Spring Festival is 3 days from Thursday 9th of February. This year I know the students went back to school very soon after that time, about a week or something. |

I know of a teacher who does the following:
Presents the school with his desired dates of leave and says, "I'm buying plane tickets for these dates. Let me know if that will pose a problem."
Seems to work like magic on getting the real dates. |

Many important dates at the schools will be disclosed at a short notice. I guess that gives some people at the top a feeling of "I am in control" Spring semester normally starts a week or two after the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. Checking out the date of Chinese New Year on the lunar calendar may help. |

Yes, I said I am going to buy a plane ticket, for as soon as term is finished. What date is that?
Got a reply in half an hour. 22 Jan 2006 That's a Sunday.
I did remind the FAO that he would be reimbursing the cost, so if it was wrong, he would have to pay twice. |
