I'm looking at starting a PhD program in linguistics. I'm hoping to launch a university career in East or SE Asia, thereafter. I've been looking at job ads and trying to determine which countries would actually be worth it to teach in, salary wise. I have been told by several people that I should add Singapore to the list (which includes Japan, HK, and Macau). I've been to Singapore before, and loved it. I speak fluent Mandarin and some Hokkien (and my wife is a native speaker of both), so Singapore would make sense for us. I've seen occasional jobs postings for universities in Sing. on linguistic web pages. However, what I have not been able to find is any examples of going salary and benefits for university work. Can anybody fill me in on this? Also, are foreigners generally allowed to pursue tenure-track positions in universities (Japan is notorious for denying tenure positions to foreigners)? In general, is Singapore a good place to teach at a uni?
I'd appreciate any and all information that you can provide.
Thanks,
