I will be moving to Ankara around the end of January and I will be in need of a place to live. I am a 21 year old male and I speak decent Turkish, and I am hoping to find a job teaching english. If you have a need for a roommate or know of someone who does, please contact me asap.

Your moniker may be putting potential roommates off.

Yes, well I guess I should clarify that I am not a demon of any sort, nor do I worship any. Wink

We are doing fine now, thanks: certainly much better then a few weeks ago. Because of this, I must now think more firmly about the future, and getting an apartment is one of the major things on my list.

Scratch that last post... we broke up 2 days ago, for good as far as I can tell. Still, I am hoping to move to Istanbul and teach now, not Ankara.

Don't despair, if you're despairing. Break-ups here are often to make a point as much as anything else (that is, if the Turk broke up with you). You need do decide more if you can deal with the histrionics and drama that make up a relationship with a Turk. Remember 8th grade? It's like that.

And no, I'm not trying to be disparaging against Turks. It's just that relationship logic is a whole different thing from what we're used to. Forget everything you learned about being a grown-up in the relationship. Expect copious phone calls and messages any day now. Tears, drama, it's all par for the course...

But since you're no longer allowed to swim together in Ankara, Istanbul may be a better choice.

So teachers in Turkey can't afford their own place to stay ? You have to share a place ? Yuk. Reminds me of that post over on 'Poland' here - 'Will work for food'. Wow ! The Decline of The West !

At least in Saudi I have my own place and I can save some money !

Scot47--

I just needed to pre-empt Mark Loyd...

Sharing isnt necessary- even when I was working in a lingo school in Suadiye I had my own flat. It wasnt difficult. I even had a few hundred ytl left at the end of the month. This year I upgraded to a pricier, bigger flat and it's still all good.

How many people out there can't afford to live on their own? (I actually am curious)

Not the decline of the west. More like the decline of TEFL.

Well that is two things that Turkey TEFLers can't do.

But isn't two or three middle-aged men sharing a villa, a typical ex-pat scenario?

Are you paying that few hundred YTL into your pound account?

Why would I put my lira into my pound account? (ooops, I meant Sterling...mustn't upset the quibblers)

You have a fine mind for pointless detail.

Yes, you are right. By the time the few hundred YTL was changed into pounds and you paid for the transfer, you would end up with nothing. Typical TEFLer, drink the money.

Hum... well... with or without the drama she seemed pretty confident about her choice at the time. Then again, only days before she sent me emails about how strong she felt with me and love and blah blah blah. I decided the most realistic choice was just to accept it's over and move on, even though she is liable to bounce around. My heart can only take so much.
