Hi, everyone,
This is my first message ever in a forum.... Confused
I am considering teaching either French or English in China, next year (I have a French and Australian passport: was born in France and lived for 20 years, and did all my studying in Oz)
I have been in contact with Hebei Uni of Technology in Tainjin to teach there. Has anyone had experience with it? If yes, what do you think?

Also for those of you who have been teaching in China, are you aware of any French teaching job possibilities there? Is there usually a French department in High schools or Unis?
I can't find very much on the net on that topic....

hope you can help

some of the bigger universities have a number of foreign languages for the students to choose from. My tiny little college has English, GErman and Japanese majors with foreign teachers for each. Shaaxi University in Taiyuan routinely hires people to teach English, Russian, French, Arabic, Spanish and German. The list goes on....

I have not heard of any middle school doing so. Some private kindergardens might.

There is a Uni here in Haikou that employs English and French teachers.

Descend dans nos archives et tu trouveras nombre de postes a ce sujet-la - la derniere fois en date que nous l'avons discute etait dans la semaine passee!

You can teach French at perhaps 4 institutions in Guangzhou ("Canton" en francais), one being the Academie francaise, two being public universities, and the fourth one being a private training centre.

French also is taught at some tertiary institutions in Wuhan, Xi'an, Shanghai and Peking.
Apart from those, the Academie francaise has branches in several major cities across China, including Hong Kong.

But to qualify for this type of work you typically would have to have a European-type education. Remuneration can be better if you meet the relevant criteria and your employer gets financial help from France.

I seem to remember someone posting about Hebei Uni of Technology on one of the TEFL China email lists. They weren't happy, but didn't specify why.

The place is in Hongqaio District, which has very few foreigners. It is close to the city centre, however, and convenient for the train station. It's also very close to the new subway line, which will open soon.
