Can you Canadians help me out with some
info ?

What is the average pay for a TEFL teacher
in downtown Vancouver ?

What are the working conditions like?

Do you find the schools to be generally legit ?

Any Language School which you know has a GOOD rep ?

I only know the Victoria scene. Last year I made between $15-$20/hr, but that was with erratic, unguaranteed hours and no benefits. Not fun. I make more money in Turkey...

In Vancouver, the school I was working at paid $18 per hour for hourly teachers, and we salaried teachers made $21 per hour and had 4 weeks paid vacation time a year and extended health&dental insurance. It was called International language learning centre. It was a great place to work. If I were moving back to Vancouver, I'd definitely reapply there. I taught 4 1hr 15min classes a day, plus every salaried teacher had some extra duties. I was the activities co-ordinator for a while, and then I was in charge of clubs scheduling for a bit. I think that there are more reputable than disreputable ESL schools in Vancouver, but check and see whether they are affiliated with any professional groups such as PPSEC or CAPLS.

Winfield college also seemed pretty good. I did my TEFL cert there, and the teachers I spoke to there seemed pretty satisfied with their working environment at the time.

Are you already in Vancouver, or planning to move there to look for work?

I am currently teaching in Asia for a year. I'd like return to the Vancouver area and teach when my contract is completed.

How likely am I to find work? I have a B.Sc (in Computer Science) and a TEFL Certificate (and of course will have a year's worth of teaching experience when I return)?

I think it is/was between $18-24/hr. I started at $23 at my last conversation school. VCC is another story, man I loved that job and the pay..... Too bad for the layoffs or I'd be there until retirement.

I was making 2, 500 dollars a month at an average sized reputable school. I had 3 weeks paid vacation as well as extended medical and dental. I taught for about 4 hours a day and was required to be at school from 9 until 3.

It wasn't bad. It wasn't great. I had fun and was able to live reasonably well. I'd go back to the same situation if I went back.

I am also interested in any work in the Vancouver area.
I'll be returning in May and I wouldnt mind working in Vancouver as I live fairly close.

What schools are available for teachers? I'll have two full semesters of teaching under my belt and I sure could use the money to save for college. I just have a TEFL certificate.

Also, any ESL summer camps that hire?

There are hundreds of schools in Vancouver. Take your pick. It should be really easy to find summer work anyways. Most if not all the decent schools require a TEFL certificate in some form or another.
School boards also hire for summer classes, not sure of the qualifications for them.

Pretty good I think. If you go to http://working.canada.com/vancouver/index.html and search for "teacher" you will usually find EFL jobs advertised. Bear in mind that you must be a legal resident of Canada first before anybody will bother talking to you.
