Due to the new drive to become accredited by SACS, nothing but an MA in a relevant field will due starting this year. Emails went out explaining to all staff that this would be the new policy and that contract renewal would be contingent upon having the appropriate qualification (MA). |

I'm pretty sure that he's referring to HCT...but you can still teach Diploma (as opposed to Higher Diploma or Bachelor) courses without a Master's. |

However, you will need a degree in the subject you are teaching, which is not the case at the moment. |

Or is it that in Gulf TEFL many a Homer Simpson masquerades as a Ned Flanders ... |

Due to carelessness I typed "due" instead of "do." I'm sorry for all of the commotion, and misunderstanding. I can see how it must have obscured the meaning of my posting. Ill try to be more careful in the future. I understand as English teachers grammar mistakes just leap off the page at you.
As for the where question.... I thought I was replying to a different posting about conditions at the HCT not initiating a new post.
Cheers |

You must be joking! Many high school graduates could do better than some so-called EFL professionals (with a master's or not) around here
Point in case: a highly "uneducated" (with all the right degrees ) former supervisor of mine decreed that our students were doing too well on their exams because teachers were including examples in the test instructions. He then had everyone remove them from future assessments This ban also included test-types that students were not familiar with! (Oh, please don't ask me why unreliable and invalid tests were written by "qualified" people. Your guess would be as good as mine )
I could go on but I'd rather forget those dark days in my career.
Bottom line, blindly accepting people by the level of their education is irresponsible. Let's not lose sight of who we are really teaching in the UAE. For most of these students, a solid ESL and education background is enough. Considerable local experience is also beneficial. Sadly, people without local experience who oftenburn out in a jiffy are hired over better-qualified applicants who don't have that coveted higher degree. Does this make sense? |

I haven't even figured out what this thread is about... though I do think it has been amusing in spots...
