I quit my job in Beijing working for a Peter (last name same as the seven time tour de france cyclist's winner) . He is the director of foreign teachers at New Bridge High School and middle schools . He basically farms teachers out to other schools , so teachers spend most of their time on a bus . My fine was larger than my salary . This is a joke because they never went to the trouble of registering me with the government the month I worked there. I did IELTS testing which is ilegal because I am not licensed to do this . The school photocopies all their texts for the students . It is basically a school devoted to the ignorant expoiting the ignorant
I quit because I was teaching low level students in low level schools . He determined I should have these classes because I am experienced . I have no problem with this since I enjoy teaching beginners . The problem is that Mr Peter (Weakleg ) had already prepared these students by turning off any spark of light in them . He digs for dirt , works off the negative and basically is not an educator but another MBA who can't make a living in business because of his manipulating personality . He passes the buck whenever he can and humiliates students and teachers whenever he can . He can only do this with new teachers with no experience in EFL.
Mr. Peter has had much problem maintaining teachers and has taken to dealing with recruiters himself . He enjoys dumping garbage on people such as all his low paying private students . One student was a nurse , he told me " I normally don't teach for this low pay but she is beautiful ." I don't do privates in CHina because it is unethical . Mr Peters has no ethics
I am basically happy I left this school because I am now working with best students I have had taught in 15 years of teaching overseas . |

I worked for Peter at Newbridge in Beijing during the 2004-2005 academic year. The pay was above average and the living conditions were perfect. I had no complaints about the general living or working conditions. Sure, we had to work at various schools in the district, but they were all within reasonable distance and the school provided all transportation. The students often were of low level, but it was mixed just as it would be at any other school. I had some classes that made me feel like a million bucks after the class and I truly enjoyed teaching. Your comments about Peter and Newbridge Foreign Language School are totally unjustified. Considering I had no previous teaching experience, the employment opportunity, location and support offered to me by the school was more than I could ask for in China. Hell, they even took us out to dinner at least once a month! (And all my bonus and airfare was paid to me at the end of the year no contest...Plus, the holiday over spring festival turned out to be 6 weeks!) If I could go back, I wouldn't have done things any differently. |

You forgot the part where you grew as a teacher and now you are a more complete individual . What is going on ? They must be recruiting again . You stayed there on year and it was so good you moved on ? This thread was dug up from months ago . Sorry I got burned by this organization . But it was a learning experience . |

Actually, teaching IELTS is not normally done by Teacher Joe; the BC only hires well-qualified teachers. From this point of view, New Bridge does seem to be acting disingeniously.
And farming people out is unethical too though very widespread these days. Ever more self-appointed "school principals" direct their FTs to err in the streets from work place to work-place. They save on rentals for offices that do not have classrooms.
Another problem might be that IELTS is not understood well enough by Chinese; most still think they would need a TOEFL to go abroad. The demand definitely is not high enough. |

I've heard a rumor that they send that saved money to charities, just like your old bosses did |

Actually, BC does not employ any teachers in China to teach IELTS or General English or any other such thing - but Roger would know that of course.
But dont be alarmed, folks, by this seeming slip-up. All is not as it appears; it is just Roger engaging in another one of his Magical Mystery Tours of Nonsense Parading as Fact.
With a bit of fantasy cobbled together with a Lonely Planet Guide book, you are indeed the King of the Absurd, Roger.
Please dont let that stop you though, its quite entertaining.
(Post 8,000 coming up soon I hope. Much anticipated by all here.)
BTW: Can someone translate this one from Roger into English for me?
I just can't get this one

BC Guangzhou did a recruiting exercise for IELTS teachers 2 or 3 years ago; relevant ads appeared in THAT'S GUANGZHOU.
As far as I know, BC is one of the few in charge of offering IELTS courses and exams.
And while we are at it, millie, the tone, diction and some topics contained in your recent posts curiously resemble those of my old, old and trusted friend "Old Dog"!
How is the old scoundrel? |

No, they have done no such thing.
They facilitate the exam but neither BC nor any certified examiners teach IELTS in mainland China.
I hear the dog still barks and bites... but then I might just be fantasising.
Remind you of anyone you know? |

We all move on for personal reasons one time or another...Hell, to be honest I wanted to see more of China. I had great opportunities at Newbridge after one year under my belt, but got bit by that bug 'o travel. |

I guess if someone proclaims the sun to be of yellowish colour millie will contradict that person authoritatively saying "bonkers! The sun is black!"
Visit the BC Guangzhou website and see for yourself: they are recruiting IELTS examiners! |

Yeh, like, cough, cough, um, thats supposed to be a revelation, is it
BC in China hire no TEACHERS as you proclaimed; but they of course they contract EXAMINERS to facilitate the exam.
(Note the difference: to teach / to examine / teacher / examiner )
So . do you mean to say you still think you got it right?
Not the same thing to most people but I guess if that sort of half-correct opinion passes for fact, we return to your Magical Kingdom of Stuff and Nonsense again - where the 'sun is yellowish or black' and tinged with a purple haze and where smiling dolphins in a far off ocean chant in unison Hail to King Roger"
I believe every word you say, honestly I do. |
