Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 39 bytes) in /usr/local/www/eslcafe.com/forums/job/search.php on line 364
I tried to do a search and this is the only result I got.
I also 'Googled' them but got mostly Japanese school information and results, which admittedly wasn't glowing with praise. So the question is are they decent or not?
We have been offered jobs by them and the money looks good, hours are reasonable and all the usual benefits seem to be covered.
Any opinions from former or current employees out there?

Thanks Babala.
We're probably definitely coming to Changzhou it just remains to be seen with what school or company. Shane is offering substantially more than our other offer for the same hours and benefits...
Figured I'd throw it out there you know? |

Hey there,
My wife and I did a two month stint with Shane in Hefei, capital of Anhui province back in summer 2004. The branch was not so bad to be fair, we got paid a decent amount of money and had good living conditions.
I like their teaching materials for lower levels; They were well designed and supported with flash cards, toys, CD, etc....
I know that since then, someone else took over that branch and i have not heard about them anymore. I think that you would do a lot worse than working for Shane.
The litmus test is always: would I do it again? the answer is : YES. Keep in mind that my experience was only two months long and I knew i could leave anytime i wanted to. |

Thanks Nolefan.
Their offer seems good but I have to make a decision today as I've promised another potential employer that I will let her know before the weekend...still not sure... |

Are you in China right now? If yes, just head over to Changzhou and check the place out. The city in itself is not so bad and Shane English gives a fair deal as far as I know. Their pay structure is much better than that of EF and other language mills. There are a few offers in Changzhou at the moment.
were you able to talk to a current or former teacher? |

Yeah we're working in Guangxi province, but we don't have time to 'pop' over to Changzhou it's about a 30 hour train trip from where we are and that's too far.
Shane's pay structure does seem to be pretty competitive but our other offer is only from mid Feb until the end of June (4 1/2 months) and they will pay us a one way flight in full. When you consider the fact that Shane doesn't pay any flight reimbursement for a 6 month contract the difference in monies received is negligible.
The advantage of the 'non-Shane' position is that it gives us 2 months off to travel before September rolls around again.
Decisions, decisions, decisions... |

Sorted!
We took the travel time over the cash.
If everything goes according to plan we'll have a month or so to travel in China and still have time to go back home to Canada for a visit!. |

I used to have a review of Shane schools over on my old site, when it was still using ezboards to store reviews. However, it was lost in "The Great Crash", as I'm now referring to it as. I don't remember it being particularl positive, but my memory in general seems to be getting fuzzier and fuzzier. |
