I like Carnac's suggestions, and I tend to make them move around; physically at the board, doing yoga, switching partners during activities. But some people resist staying awake, including myself (especially in the morning)!
Some of it depends on administration's policy towards nonparticipating students. If argueing with Kyoumuka is not one of the highlights of your life, then it might be better to pass them with a lower grade (and vent later at the bar)! Not fair, but at my current unis, I usually am not so nice, so they might fail depending on other circumstances (homework, classwork, test scores, attendance-absences, etc.) coupled with the snoozing. |

Here's what I do: First, I speak very loudly and repeat, "If you sleep in my class, get the hell out. Do you understand?... I said, DO... YOU... UNDERSTAND?!! This is not your God damn bed!! This is my God damn class, morons. I do realize that halfwits like you could never hope to go past beginner 1 in English, and at best (or worst) you will defile and do injustice to the English language, but nevertheless..." If they still don't understand, then ,!,,

| If I ever teach and students come to sleep but come to class to do it, and don't complain about me... I think that be a good thing. Less work and no problems. They suffer not me. |

I don't think you'll have to worry.
Merry Christmas to you. |

That's not it. I just don't get the sentence. Maybe it needs rewording. Don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to be critical; I just want to understand what you mean. |

I see now. This is just your style: being incomprehensible. Gotcha! |

| OK, I admit, I'm a simple guy. What is the GWB pic supposed to mean in the context of this thread? |
