Most of the programs I have been looking at are relatively the same, so my question is where is the cheapest place to obtain your TEFL certification? And can anyone tell me about a few good programs which might pay (or offer flights) while obtaining it?
Im sure this question has been brought up by newbs left and right, but whats the general consensus? |

Where are you flying from?
Which Cert do you want?
What passport(s) do you hold? |

This actually easy to answer. No good cert programs will offer pay (certainly not flights!) Its better to go without getting "certified" altogether! Don't fall for teaching programs that offer "certification" on the side. I've heard of a few of these in China and all of them turned out to be disreputable.
Get certified if you plan on doing this for much longer than a year, but are unwilling or unable to get a MA. If this is the case, try to get certified in the country where you want to work, or start working. Thailand has the cheapest CELTA program I beleive. |

you have to weight the flight in with the cost of the course. A course in Thailand might be cheaper, but getting there is expensive . Pick a good course near you. |

Good advice, but if you're planning on going to a place anyway, the flight won't make much difference. If you want to teach in Thailand, you save money by flying there, then doing the course, as opposed to doing the course near you, then flying over to Thailand. If a cheap CELTA is available in a country that you want to stay and teach in, this is a good option.

So Thailand would be the unanimous answer for the cheapest place to get it?

AFAIK Bulgaria was the cheapest CELTA course this time last year. Of course that doesn't include flights and visas. |
