I have been told that UK and Irish citizens, being fellow EU member states where English is the native language, have first priority at English teaching jobs in Greece. Having said that, are there any opportunities for Americans (or Australians, Kiwis, South Africans) in Greek frontisteria? Are Schengen Visas/work permits available for this kind of work? How would I proceed? I have a B.A. but do not yet have any TEFL qualification. I understand a B.A. is the minimum the Greeks will accept. Thanks for your advice.

it doesnt really matter where you are from as long as you have a EU passport and a degree.

for example if you were an american WITH a EU passport as well. and your degree. then thats fine.

but the fact they are UK or irish means nothing. its the passport, degree and english they want.

easy...

you go to the embassy of whatever country you wish to get a passport from. and apply for the passport if you are a citizen.

You are only an American, not a citizen of any EU country, but would still like to find a job teaching in Greece? I seem to find conflicting reports online. Anyone out there know how common it is for a school to hire an American and go through all the paperwork to hire them?

(thanks)

Forget Greece. Go next door to Turkey.
