"China is desperate..." hahaha! China is not desperate because it has always been able to do without FTs! Those that say they are "desperate" to hire a foreign face are those who don't know their business, and yes, they are legions! It is precisely those "desperate" employers you should steer clear of! Those that have experience in hiring FTs won't tell you "we are desperate" - that would say more about them than they would like you to know!
I agree with Toni Lee in saying if you can't afford to lose your airfare dues you shouldn't come here in the first place! |

Roger, Roger, Roger!
You never cease to amaze me! Do you really take issue with davidq's basic premise, or are you just hyper-phobic of the term "desperate"?
Are you kidding me?
Would you be happier if he used words: like: "hungry," "eager," "yearning," "very much in need of"...???
If there is not a measure truth in what he asserts, then please explain to me why almost every school/organization I have worked for sends people to wait outside university gates, looking for foreign faces to talk to and offer teaching jobs to (whether they have the slightest bit of teaching experience or not).
Why do most of my previous employers frequent public English Corners in search of meeting foreigners to discuss the possibility of teaching for their organization?
Why do company staff ask me to contact friends back home to inquire if they want to come to China to teach?
Why (where I am currently working) does each marketing person have front and center on their desk a list of places to call in search of foreigners as possible future teachers?
Why do people stop me on the street and ask if I will give lessons to their children?
Why do so many job postings on ESL websites say things like: "Need American or Canadian native speaker, no teaching experience required."
Yes, no "desperation" here!
I will agree with you that most of these people will avoid using the word "desperate," because they don't want to appear that vulnerable, but indeed there is a level of desperation to all of this madness. |

| Personally I would rather be paid more money per month... like an extra 1000 per month which would cover the cost of the ticket. Then if you are 1/2 year you get about 1/2 that, or 1 year you get the full amount but no limitations on where you can go with the ticket or why you have to return home... for some people HOME is CHINA... there is no where to go back to. |
