I have a three year diploma and am currently employed as a registered massage therapist. I started Univ. DE in Jan 2005. I would love to finish my degree while gaining work and travel experience overseas. What seems like a long time ago, I got my TESOL cert. in 1999.

I'd like to travel to Asia to teach. I can't seem to get it straight. Am I employable in either China, Japan, Korea or Taiwan? Anyone have an opinion about the best option for me?

thanx

If you are from Canada you can get a 6-month working holiday visa in Japan. This is renewable once giving you one year. A full work permit with a sponsor requires a BA or a BS degree. Associate degrees or diplomas are not acceptable for a work permit here by immigration.

You also need a university degree to get a sponsored work visa in Korea and Taiwan. This is an IMMIGRATION, not an employer requirement to get a work permit. China will take anyone with a white face and pulse, but they are starting to demand that foreign teachers have degrees, Pay is also very low if you have no degree in most areas of China except the big cities such as Shanghai or beijing.

A 3 year diploma is not the same as a 3 year degree. She/he needs an undergraduate Bachelors degree, not a non-degree university diploma. She would have to graduate first and present a copy of the degree to immigration to get sponsorship.

I have a 3 year undergraduate Bachelor's degree from New Zealand while degrees take 4 years in Canada and the U.S.
