I once read that during the month of your birthday you can travel at a discounted rate within Japan. Does anyone know which airline this is?

I know for sure that JAL does the discount deal. It is 10,000 one way to anywhere in Japan. I am not sure but I think you can travel from up to a month before your birthday.

I also believe that travelling companions can also go at the ichi man rate too. Is it a month or 2 weeks around your bday?

JAl gives the discount for a total of 15 days round your birthday (i.e. a week before, the day itself, and a week after). You can fly with 3 friends for the discount price.

Both JAL and ANA have the same deal. Depending on where in Japan you're flying it will cost you between 10,000 and 12,000 Yen for you and up to 3 guests anytime within a week before or after your birthday. You can book on ANA online. Went to Okinawa for by birthday last year and heading to Hokkaido for my girlfreind's next month.

Thanks guys! Would it be worth it to go Okinawa only for a 3 day weekend? There is a black out at the end of March so I can't use the discount when I have my holidays.

I'd say its only worth it if you flew directly to one of the smaller islands. The main island is nice but doesn't offer the exotic beaches or off the beaten path excursions of Miyako-jima, Iriomote, et all. Also, winter is not the best time to go.

I reckon it would. Like the other bloke said the best beaches aren't on the main island but there are still some pretty nice beaches on/around the main island. Weather should be OK then too.
