Howdy folks. I have been teaching in Taiwan for over two years. It has been great, but it is time to move on to greener pastures. I am currently researching Portugal. Any word about the job scene there. I have the TEFL, I have a B.A. I am not looking for the big bucks, rather a relaxed and peaceful existence teaching in Portugal. I am also looking for any pen pals/contacts who are already in Portugal. I play music want to jam? I am also and avid football fan and player. Long days and pleasant nights. |

if you are American, you may have a tough time getting work.
I know two Brits and a Canadian that worked there (Lisbon) and they had good experiences, I believe.
One of the English fellows bought property but unfortunately got divorced afterwards. |

Thanks for the reply Brooks. You mentioned that if you are an American it might be difflicult to find work. Is this because I would not be part of the EU due to my USA passport? Fortunately my father was born in the U.K, so I am in the process of getting a U.K passport. Thanks, dragonboots. |

well with a British passport you will be set.
of course, Portugal is in the EU.
Americans can get work in Spain, for example, but the pay sucks and getting a job is a hassle (with paperwork).
The Canadian I mentioned was married to a man from Surrey.
How she got to work at the British Council I don`t know, but it`s a good gig.
The other man tired of working in Portugal but it was his place of residence, and the place where he took vacations. |
