I teach at a private Serbian Univ. with branches in Novi Sad & Belgrade. It seems the going rate for an hour of teaching is in the 10-15 Euro range at private schools everywhere. Public universities will pay less, but it is very stable, and students are better behaved. I understand there are some corporate language training positions to be had, but I have not pursued it.
The cost of living is very low here. You can get a flat in the range of 225-350 Euros depending on location and other factors. The price of food is quite low, and utilities are reasonable.
There are quite a few ESL jobs available since learning English seems to be a priority for many young Serbs. The typical work visa problem is that you can't get a work visa unless you have a job contract. However, you can't get a job contract unless you here in Serbia. So, you must come over on a tourist visa and begin your job hunt.
I should mention that Serbs seem split on learning American or British English. My impression is that they are evenly divided on this issue.
There are a number of problems that I have found living and teaching here as well as some good things. If you are still interested, we can discuss this further. |
