| Todate if an officer wants to marry a non Turk he must get permission from his commanding officer and the General Staff in Ankara. |
Is it still the case if he even dates a foreign woman he can be chucked out the army and imprisoned? |

In case you missed it there has been an awful amount of fuss about some cartoons published in a Danish newspaper and a priest was murdered in Trabzon by a 16 year old because of it .
Did anyone else catch the 1001 news articles or am I the only one on this forum that watches Digiturk ? |

Not that bad, but if the relationship becomes public it will effect his chance for promotion. |

| For those of us who work in Universities only, it would appear that employers are NOT legally bound to pay s.s.k. premiums for their foreign academic staff. Does anyone know if this is correct and how do we go about building something in the way of a pension without this basic benefit as part of our employment contract ? |

You can check if they've been paying you and how much on SSk's website-- it has the history of everywhere you've worked and all you've been paid since you got the card:
www.ssk.gov.tr
Somewhere in there is a place to enter the no. on your card. That's where I found out Interlang was scr*wing me on that too, big surprise. |

Ah, I'm over it. I just feel a need to forever point out Interlang's screwing me over, though it doesn't make the least bit of difference to them now that they're under new management....
But I was surprised SSK records are that easy to access! |

If you are recored as an Oktman,(reader?) then you are paid by the hour and you don't get any ssk cover.
Otherwise any employer with more than seven full time workers must pay ssk premiums. However if you hope to get a pension from Turkey, when you turn 65, think again. SSK will cover your medical Bills, but you need to be a Turk or a full time resident to get the pension. |

I'm recorded as Okutman and getting SSK...
But I'm not getting paid by the hour.
Calsimsek, you know a lot-- supposing I stay here til I'm 65, will I be able to collect on my husband's Bağkur? Or would I have to be a citizen? Or do I get nothing in either case? |

I am not paid by the hour and I do have a record of premiums paid over a 7 year period and my employer has a lot more than 7 employees more like 100 .
I and my foreign collegues have been informed that from the start of this year they are not going to pay our contributions just private medical insurance .Is that right ? Is that legal ? Comments ideas what are my options .I intend to stay here for the foreseeable future . |

This would mean that you are legal and on the ''books''. In this case they have to pay your SSK. If you are married and have a full time residence permit you will get a pension.
As for your husband's Bağkur, you will get full coverage from him. For medical bills.
In a deal between Turkey and the I.M.F all three different insurance programs will come under one roof. So SSK, Bağkur and Emekli Şandık (?) will be one.
If you plan to be here for a while I would consider going for a privet medical and pension plan. I pay 100 a month into mine. I collect on it in 15-20 years.

As far as I understand it no its not legal at all. If they stop your payments. Then that means you are no longer working for them. In other words you would be an ''off the books employees''. You need to check this out. Perhapes you can do a deal with them and get them to give you some cash towards a privet fund.
We to understand that most of us are paid in 'net' terms not 'gross'
An employers pay around 30-35 % in Tax for each employee based on the his/her level of pay.
It is in the interest of the employer to either show employees at a lower pay or to keep them off the books all together.
Most of the MC Eng schools in town always pay most of the staff in cash. It is illegal, and should be reported. |

2 sets of books. One is the real one and the other is for tax purposes. Many people will be amazed that they are actually on minimum salary(officially) |

| Apparently the place I work has decided that those individual teachers with a certain number of credits will be allowed to continue as before ,they did'nt have to do this of course but in the interests of good worker relations they have made or are going to make them in the future .However ,for the newcomers no chance . |

Hi
Anybody know whats happening today ? I know in Izmir there are a few shows and seminars, workshops, conferences, etc does anyone from this forum have any intention of attending any of them or have any interest about the difficulties facing those women less forunate than ourselves ?
I attended a seminar yesterday night and the subject was "honour killings " apparently they still take place and girls still get married as young as 12 years of age and many have no record of their date of birth as far as the state is concerned they don't even exist . We don't really know how lucky we are do we ? |
