Can anyone shed some light on gomi piles in Japan? I've heard that people throw the "old" model of whatever it is they buy whenever the latest model comes out to the point that one can furnish a new apartment with this stuff. What is the real deal here? Is it that bad or are there places that you can take stuff to like clothes? I'd like to think I can bring things like this to a shelter or someplace where people can make use of the stuff. |

I recommend visiting your local government office, whether it be a city hall or even a police box. I'm sure they could advise you on where to drop off some clothes as charity.
With my family, we often donate our childrens' clothes to the local parent-child centre. We've also picked up most of our kids clothing from the same place. Where we live the general population just circulates the clothing and the clothes that get worn out are usually generously replaced by extremely proud grandparents. |

Thanks, Moot Point. I like the idea of the parent-child centre, esp. as someone whose background is in social services. |

I haven't seen any charity shops where I live, wish I had. There are used clothing/book stores though that are like charity when it comes to buying things from you. |
