Ok, here's the scoop. I'm seriously considering quiting my government cubicle job (policy analyst) and going back to teach overseas for a couple of years. Before doing my graduate degree in Int'l Affairs, I was on the JET programme, teaching in 2 senior high schools in Japan. I also worked 4-6 hours a week at an all ages conversation school. I'm still in quite abit of debt and would like to save some money (while living overseas with a low stress job). I've been to Taiwan and can see myself living there, but I'm open to other options. I'd really appreciate some feedback on the following:
1. what are my chances of landing a uni job in Taiwan? From the sounds of it, the hours would allow me to work quite abit on the side and therefore save a lot of cash.
2. if I can't get a job at a university, what are my prospects other than that?
3. Is Taiwan my best bet for saving the most money, given my qualifications (or lack thereof). I'm talking income minus living expenses.
4. any other suggestions?
thanks a lot

Not much chance landing a job in a university.
If you've spent two years in Japan and can
speak Japanese you should probably go back there.
I'm saying this because your'e probably familiar
with Japan. For someone coming over with
no such experience, I'd say come here. It is
easier to get started her than in Japan. For saving
money, there isn't much difference. You just
need less to get started up here. |

Actually, you can get a job working at a university in Taiwan with a master's degree. Most universities prefer to hire professors, but they do hire some instructors (master's degree) as well. You might look at Scott Sommers' website for more information on finding work at a university. Michael Turton has some information on his site as well. The pay is not great, but you should be able to save some money, especially if you get extra work at other schools. |
