What type of airfare did you purchase for your first trip to study/work in Thailand?
Since the desired return date is unknown and since return fares are often required I was wondering what type of fares most people bought.
One way, round trip with fixed dates (change penalties), round trip with flexible dates?
I just know that tickets without restrictions can be quite pricey. Also for a fixed departure date would you set it far into the future? I figure if you have a fixed return date 360 days after arrival the arrival date immigration might be a hassle (assuming you arrive as a tourist and are seeking a TEFL certification and work).
I'm just wondering how other peope generally handled this.
Thanks,

Hi there
Following advice from the net (and my travel agent confirmed this), I purchased a one-way ticket to BKK with the intention of purchasing a visa before leaving NZ (making the one-way ticket fine). I leave for BKK in 5 days time.
Well last week I send mine and my 7yo's passports off to the Thai Embassy only to have them ring and say they can't issue a visa on a one-way ticket - arrrgh!
After a bit of stress I have resolved it easily by purchasing a ticket each for us to Vietnam (keeps Thailand happy). If I need a ticket to leave Vietnam I'll buy it and either not use it or sell it and return overland.
So thats me sorted!
Cheers

They're a useless Embassy Hails....that's not true at all. You have to HAVE a proper Visa (in theory) to be able to get a one way ticket (I've explained why before on here, but will happily do so again). So as long as you don't come in on a 30 day stamp....you shouldn't in theory need a return ticket.
I know people that have got an el cheapo flight to Laos and then cashed it in on arrival (I think you need to buy it on your credit card to do this).
I've got them e-mails for you now Hails! PM me please! |
