This will come as bad news to all EFL teachers who have worked or passed through Istanbul. As you all know Bar Madrid has been the epicentre of EFL in Istanbul for 10 years(well, almost the anniversary was going to be in April). Alas, last night it held its closing down party and on Tuesday the 28th it well serve its last (honestly it 's not watered down) beer. Cheers to all those who ever drank in her. |

oh... I WILL miss those toilets.
It will be, indeed, the end of an era. Flags are at half mast in Trakya....
Where do the teachers go these days? |

A sad day indeed, but it had to come soon. You can't make money on cheap teachers drinking the odd beer or two.
On the Asain side (where the nice people live) the old Sanat Bar in Kadikoy is still going strong. For well over 10 years Murat and the boys have being pouring drinks to not only EFLers but local Turkish teachers as well.
If your into something a bit louder you could go for Teachers on Bar Street in Kadikoy |

That's the first bar I ever went to in Istanbul!
And I'm with Tekirdağ about the bathrooms-- they have a great mirror that makes you look *really* skinny... |

Any chance it's just going to change name to Bar Barca? |
There used to be a bar called Barcelona It was on the corner of Adnan sok and Istiklal.
I don't know where most teachers go to nowa days. If I go out I rarely leave Cadde I-kebir.
In the summer however I am to be found under Galata bridge or Nevizade Looking forward to the summer already |
