I notice that Temple offers a Master of Science in Education in TESOL at their Japanese campuses.
Has anyone studied at Temple in Japan?
What was your experience like?
How were the courses?
Thank you in advance. |

Thanks for the link. It answered a lot of questions for me.
You are right. It is a M.Ed TESOL. The Philadelphia campus has the MS.Ed.
I got confused. |

If you want my personal opinion its a good course, worth doing, but expensive. Around 2 million yen before graduation. It all comes down to how badly you want a Masters degree and whether you are prepared to put the work in.
There are currently around 50 people in the doctorate program at Temple in Osaka and TUJ has graduated around 800 Masters degrees since 1981. |

I'm currently teaching one of the MATESL courses (Intro to Conversation Analysis) at TUJ's Tokyo Campus and I've been impressed both with the calibre of the students and with the level of the program overall. I consider the standard of this program to be on a par with the best MATESL programs in the US.
I don't mean to be incidentally tooting my own horn here, but TUJ frequently brings in top faculty in their specialty area to teach courses. For example, J.D. Brown is going to be teaching a research methods course and in the past Michael Rost has taught a teaching listening course. They also bring in several leading experts each semester for special lectures.
The program is relatively expensive but then it will be a very different experience than the typical "module" based distance MA. Also, I think the the marketability of this "campus-based" American MA is probably greater than many of the distance degrees available. Of course if you don't happen to be in the Tokyo or Osaka area there will also be the cost of traveling back and forth to classes. |
