Yep, you know that when the rats start leaving that the ship is definately going to sink.

A big blow to corporate language schools as well. The model does not work.

Just until a few years ago in Japan, it was very hard to start a non-profit organization. Now it is a piece of cake. These kinds of organizations will come in and take up students as well. Collectives as well.

Funny, that the Nova corporation fell because it wanted to save a few bucks on health care for the teachers who serve as its public face.

Just dumb, actually. Dumb greed.

The Nova Union is on the leading edge of the civil society movement in Japan. The March in March demonstrations are an opportunity for you to meet some of these people as they turn corporate society into a civil society.

and look for the link to March in March (March 5th, by the way)

Hi wang,

Schools offering courses because they and their employees care about Education, Language Teaching and Learning, and Students. Revolutionary! It could even mean that professional TEFLers jaded by the crap of the commercial so-called schools have somewhere they can teach without feeling like language-whores.

Any more info or are they still just a gleam in eye.

For what it's worth, I have recently been told directly by ACTUAL NOVA EMPLOYEES that their semi-annual bonuses have been cut or eliminated altogether. I'm talking about foreign admin AND Japanese staff--workers far more senior than the standard teacher or assistant trainer. Thus, lots of the Japanese staffers are quitting NOVA. I don't know if the foreign staffers are abandoning ship too, but it certainly does seem like things are indeed not going well.

What I've heard is that all Nova managers haven't been paid in the last three months. This is not a good sign. Now it looks like even the Nova Usagi's been kicked out of its rabbit hutch.

If you're planning on coming to Japan to work for Nova, I would seriously reconsider.

Where did you get this information? Regarding my assertions, I heard directly from workers whose bonuses have been cut or eliminiated. Regarding your claim, are the affected managers telling you this directly, or is this unverified? If this is true, that's a big red flag. Exclamation

A little bird told me Zzonkmiles. Apparently AAMs and up were affected.

And Nova's recently raised the cost of their classes. Is Nova the next NCB?
