My parents back in the UK aren't exactly the most technically savvy of people, so they've never gotten around to using chat programs such as MSN Messenger with me. Communication was therefore limited in the past year or so to email, letters and the occassional phone call (me calling them).

Recently however I changed from Yahoo BB to NTT/FLETS, and lo and behold, I started to receive phone calls from them again and/or they could call me back without any problems.

It turned out that they couldn't get through before because the Yahoo BB phone connection somehow interfered with incoming international calls (even though they tried using the standard NTT, rather than the Yahoo BB, phone number).

BTW I didn't change ISP because of this problem - I wasn't even aware of it until after I'd changed!

I was just wondering how many other people might have experienced this problem.

I talk to my GF in japan from USA via Skype, MSN w/ voice and Yahoo.. i have not had any issued except the normal lag and her crap laptop freezing lol

I prefer yahoo messager with voice, because I also use the cam with it. It requires Highspeed and a decent machine though.

hey i had the same problem and basically we gave up. now my parents call my cell phone and i call them back on brastel card. it's cheap and i dont have to experience any crazy bills. we only kept yahoo for the fast internet speed, but now that we've moved.....we might change over. how much does your bill run? is the connection good? do u have to a bunch of pay hidden fees?

The rates with FLETS/NTT are pretty much the same as with Yahoo, and they might well have a discount campaign going whenever you sign up (first however many months free etc). A problem you may encounter however is that the modem speed may be a bit lower than with Yahoo (I actually had to go to my local BIC Camera after the one in Shinjuku told me I lived in "too remote" a place for them to offer me the service...what I think they meant was that I wouldn't be getting quite the advertised speed...anyway, I finally got it sorted at my local BIC, and the speed is fine).

One big advantage of NTT is that they have a lot more manpower, so if anything goes wrong with either your line or modem they can get engineers onto it, provide English translation etc. With Yahoo I found that often I couldn't even get through, the line was often too busy.
