I'll be moving to Chiang Mai by the end of April, and I was wondering if I could meet up with anybody that lives there. I really need advice on where to find cheap (but safe!) housing and a good place to stay until I find an apartment (hotel or hostel?). Cheers!

Hi MIMI!
I too will probably be getting to CM in April, I have already spent 3 months there. You'll love it if you can take the hot season.
I am planning on renting a house. I am bringing two 55 kg rhodesian Ridgebacks with me..Yikes! You can get a whole house for 7000 Baht. There are tons of cheap, nice apartments there. Go chiagmaihouse.com for great rentals and info. Happy shopping! Make sure you check out the Thae Phae gate sunday market...It's like a giant street fair. Laughing Wink MD

Yup, Chiang Mai is one of the best, in the world that is. You will love it...I went for a month in 04 and stayed 8 months, probably going back this year for acoupla years. Rent a moped on mun maung for 2500bht per month and you've got your transport sorted! enjoy. Also http://smilehousechiangmai.com/ is a great place to stay initially while you look for more permanent quarter.

Thanks for the replies! I was wondering if anybody was in the same boat as I am in... I have already decided to stay at Smile House (love the scenery it's placed in and the $$$) and hearing cameron.mayo recommend it just made me feel more confident about my decision. Mookamook, when are you planning on going in April? Are you teaching or staying there for a long vacation? I'm leaving April 16th, and I'm looking at apt. for about 4000$ baht a month... thanks for the link!
Mimi Very Happy
