Dave's ESL Cafe rules! I am looking for similar great websites focusing on visa info. Do you know other websites with current info on visas, work requirements, fees, limits, throughout Latin America?

Got TEFL and years experience EFL teaching in Asia. Time for big South American adventure. Got rid of my computer. Limited to one hour per day on public library computers and don't have time for much research!

Is it possible to travel cheap BY TRAIN from Los Angeles, living, teaching in Mexico, other nations, south to Brazil then Argentina over several years? Backpacker dream! Have you done this?

Visa limits, exit visas, airplane return ticket requirements, could prevent backpacking by train without limits. Is it possible? Razz

Probably Lonely Planet is better for such generic information.

TRAIN? No. Bus, yes... at least most of the way. There will be the occasional stretch where it's more convenient or easier to fly.

I think you can take a bus, or series of busses all the way down to the southern cone, except for the Darian Gap between Panama and Colombia. I think that requires a ferry or a flight.

Train would be a great idea...if the investment in infrastructure and maintenance had ever been made. It hasn't.

Busses are the majority form of transport- and you'll have to ferry or fly from Panama to Colombia. Other than that, you can get anywhere in Latin America by bus. If you're patient, adventurous, and not in a hurry...

Enjoy,
Justin
