This article in Tuoi Tre suggests that SITC is no more:

With AULI and CLC both recently packing up, it adds credence to the thought that English schools are not making loads of money as many people think they are.
Rents are going sky high, teacher salaries are high compared to similar regional countries, and the work premit clamp down is a nightmare. |

I searched the online edition of the Thanhniennews.com site but there is no English version of the article you clipped, only the Vietnamese version.
I was told the the owner ran off with the teachers pay and students fees.
Does anyone have any info? |

Word on the street is that D1 and D10 sites are closed but the D6 and Tan Binh are still open (Tuesday 24th January). The students have been dropping off there for a while and the writing has been on the wall since the Singaporeans pulled out.
I have some happy memories of the place as I worked there from 2003 - 2005 off and on at 5 different sites in total. Nice students in general as they weren't the wealthy, arrogant types you find in some of the upmarket places..... |

I have read a few articles, all in Vietnamese, and the gist seems to be:
A couple of the schools in HCM, one in Nha Trang, one in Da Nang, one in Can Tho seem to have done overnight closes.
Vung Tau, district 6 and others seem to still be open
Teachers and staff complaining that they hadn't been paid for one to two months
Customers paying for 1-2 years in advance seem to have lost their school fees
Director seems to have done a bunk to Singapore |

Spoke to someone tonight owed 5 weeks wages and who worked at the Tan Binh school which is now also closed without warning.
That's a lot of teachers and staff without pay. |

Yesterday's Vietnamese newspaper said that the school's permit expired and had to shut down. But they delayed telling students and teachers by feeding them the line that they were just without electricity temporarily. Teachers were even told that they were getting bonuses yet nothing at all was ever paid. Over 13,000 students are out now and get no reimbursement for tuition paid. It's a bit scary seeing one of the larger schools in town folding so easily. Hopefully some better news will come out stating that they've done something to compensate everyone involved. |

Not too sure about "....the school's permit expired and had to shut down...." I thought it was talking about the landlord kicking them out of the building, either because the lease period was up, or more likely because they hadn't paid their rent.
In some articles is said they they were operating in cities where they didn't yet have a permit to operate.
Here is a link, written in English, to one of the articles:

The word has it that Michael Yu, the former slug king of SITC, (or any of the hundreds of pseudomyns he has on his passports) was caught in Taiwan today trying to get to Thailand. I have yet to get a copy, but the Tuoi Tre had it in there today. I was told by a Vietnamese friend that Taiwan is keeping him for many crimes that he has committed their and Vietnam may have a hard time extraditing him for trial here. We will just have to wait and see. |
