I'm currently doing research on Dubai as I'm thinking about going there to work as a teacher.

I'm wondering what the foreigners are like in Dubai? Are they mainly married? Cliquey? etc...
I've worked in South Korea for 3years and for the most part found that the foreigners there were mostly keen to meet new people and helpful.

Are western women treated like shit by the men in Dubai (foreign as well as Arab men) ?

All opinions welcome!

How big is a fish ?

Non-Emiratis make up around 75% of the UAE's population and as Dubai is probably the most cosmopolitan of the cities in the UAE, I think it's fair to estimate that 75% of its population is also 'ex-pat' ... so your question cannot really be answered sensibly ...

I guess we were in different parts of Korea. The foreigner's I met in Korea were paranoid weirdos that didn't want to see other foreigners because it somehow took away from this being some unique experience where they were some sort of movie star Rolling Eyes

I think you will find a little less of the backpacker, out of school trying to pay the student loans crowd and a bit more of the jaded expat. Smile There is plenty to do in Dubai and assuming you weren't fluent in Korean you will find day-to-day life much easier here. (though sometimes just as frustrating.)

As for how women are treated. About the same.
In Korea it is "Are you russian?"
Here is is "You Ruskie?"

I don't find the jaded ex-pats (i.e. "exiles") cliquey in the larger cities insofar as colleagues teaming up after work to form social lives is concerned. Hobbyists may discover socialisation through their pasttimes--a darts league, diving clubs, sand duning, etc. It's all here, but you'll have to seek out.

Perhaps in smaller towns it is hard to avoid cliques which spill over from work.
