Hi all, just read a post further down about what we think Japan needs. I can think of a few things from my own experience but was also wondering, what does Japan have that the rest of us could do with back home??

I'm thinking:

1. Those electric toilets with lots of gizmos. Don't know why that hasn't taken off anywhere else.

2. High class love hotels. Seriously, the one I used to go to with my gf felt like a brief slice of heaven at times. Sauna, jacuzzi, Plazma TV in the bedroom and jacuzzi. Not sleazy or run down at all. And the fact that you never had to meet or talk to a receptionist was awesome.

Anyone else think of things from Japan they would like back home?

I'm sure beer vending machines will make the list, as will ATMs where you can remove several thousand dollars at a time.

How about deep bathtubs in the home with water recyclers?
Onsens?
Barbers that massage your shoulders, clean the wax out of your ears, and shave/trim your eyebrows.

0 yen smiles at McDonalds? (Ask for 2 and see the reaction.)

- black sesame Pocky

- food on a self-service conveyor belt

- menthol eye drops so cool they freeze your eyelids to the eyeball

- salt and vinegar Doritos

The legal right to consume alcohol in any train, bus, subway, sidewalk, orphanage, shrine, temple, hospital, dolphin sanctuary, aa clinic, children's playground, graveyard, endangered stork hatchery, snobby boutique...etc.

Love Hotels. Especially the themed ones.

Toilet seats where "you can get spray"

PingPong Buttons. And the social right to scream at wait staff from 50m away.

Kaitenzushi.

Horrific, mascot-esque abominations on every street corner advertising anything from beef on rice to low-volatility mutual funds.

Game shows were people actually get hurt.

I really wanna say "Nomi-ho-dai", but such a concept in Canada would leave bars bankrupt and barroom floors scattered with broken teeth and vomit.

Anpanman. A superhero who's head is a replaceable regional confection. That little tart Dokinchan gets me going too. Those eyes... Razz

Decent shop service.

Decent shops.

Onsen.

Cheap, good quality sushi.

Love hotels.

Shabu-shabu.

Izakaiya.

Good, private karaoke boxes with all you can drink until 5:00am.

Decent ramen.

Safety.

Working trains.

Vending machines where you can get nice drinks like Kirin Green Tea, or Mugi-Cha, instead of just Coke or Sprite.

Heathy snack food. Onigiri and salmon maki YES. Mars and Snickers NO.

Green tea Kit-Kat.

I wanna move back now.

Sad
