Hi,
I'm hoping to arrive in Japan next January/February on a WHV, but I have a few qustions/problems that I'm hoping you can help me with.
Firstly, should I apply for the WHV now as the Embassy of Japan in the UK's website states that only 400 visas will be issued in the Japanese working year (April - March)? Is it possible to obtain the visa but not actually set foot in the country until 10 months later?
Secondly, the application procedure states that you must provide a proposed itinerary for the first 6 months. To be honest, I haven't got a clue as it is such a long time away. Should I just say things like visiting friends, sightseeing etc? Also, am I right in thinking that I have to send a bank statement showing that I have access to 1500 (which I don't have)? I guess this isn't so much a problem as a family member can borrow me the money for a few days.
Thirdly, I'm having difficulty downloading the 'visa application form' at http://www.uk.emb-japan.go.jp/en/visa/work_hol.html...if someone could PM me who is in Japan and email me the application form, then that would be great.
Thanks a lot...

depending on the country you have to enter the country anything between 3 and 12 months after you receive it from the embassy.

Do what most people do: BS. say that you will travell all over the country visiting temples and shrines. Its not designed as a full time work visa.
The application is in PDF form which means you have to download Acobat reader 6.0 onto your desktop before you can open the file.
Do a Google of Acrobat reader and download the software. Should work that way.

Thanks Paul. I've sorted out the application form. I need to enter my flight details which is not possible of course as I don't intend to book it yet. However, the website clearly states that you don't need to book flights as long as you can show you have access to the 1500. I'll call them on Monday to clarify things a bit more...
