Did you hear the news? There's big money to be made in China teaching ESL. You can get 200 yuan an hour just for asking. Do you have big credit card debts? Kiss them good bye, because you can make 20,000 + per month in the new land of opportunity. All you need is a degree and TESL certificate (pick and shovel). If you don't have them don't worry because many people here will be happy to sell them to you. The more the merrier! Just watch those salaries skyrocket as all the prospectors roll into town. I know what you're thinking, "That sounds to good to be true!" Trust me it's not. I've met a lot of shaddy people in bars and read so many posts here to know that this must be the future. This is the chance of a lifetime so don't ya dare miss it. Career? Who cares, you'll be so busy "servicing" customers you won't have any time to think about it. If you want to join this fabulous growth industry all you have to do is sign up for my seminar. I'll share with you the combined wisdom of 1000's of experienced foreign teachers. Seminar rates start as low as $999 per weekend.

One thing I learned long and ever ago is that rich people don't part with their SURPLUS easily. My first tutoring job in Beijing (96) was a goofy kid who thought 100RMB was too high, so I brought it down to 60RMB(per hour) for him.During the lesson he was playing with his lighter and cigarettes; he picked up the lighter and said, this is a white gold Dupont lighter and I paid $1000 USD for it. Just yesterday, I tutored a young couple for 120 an hour, during the session I learned that they were wealthy and hoping to emmigrate to my hometown to learn English for free-Little known fact(to non-Canadains) is that "our" government bends over backwards more for foreigners thatn tax paying Canadains.I guarantee they won't be back, if they do it's 250 per hour.Exploiters do not get any sympathy from me. |
you must be from toronto. its the only canadian city i've ever heard chinese people mention in conversation. |

Hey, I agree with this statement. However, I believe your recent posts on the Beijing job market support my original post. According to you the hourly wage has actually gone down considerably over the past 10 years. Let's face it, most FT's don't really bring anything of value to the table. Most of the people who brag about the 200 yuan per hour salaries are the first people to enter a "pyramid-like scheme". Absolutely nothing is supporting this wage except the fact that they got in early to a particular school, town or province. They will be replaced as soon as someone can be found at a lower rate. You've been around long enough to know there is no wage growth in this gig (without qualifcations). Korean wages have declined. I believe Japanese wages have been stagnant for a long time. Chinese wages are crap to begin with and I don't see them going up. |
