|
|
I'm looking at the NET program possibly for next year (2007).
Does anyone know what kind of experience gets you further up the salary scale? I have a PGCE from the UK, and the EMB site seems to say that this means a minimum of 18k. But I can't find any definite info on exactly what kind of post-graduation experience counts and what doesn't.
In my case I have 4 and a bit years of teaching in British state schools, plus about 7 years in private language institutes in Japan. My instinct tells me that the UK experience will count, but that experience gained in Japan might not. Does that sound right?
Any useful input would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I had an interview a littel while ago and apparently they will look at ALL relevant teaching experience from the time you received your degree. |

From my experience of the scheme they will only recognise the documented service in public schools. THis has been the case for many people. Of course, everyones situation is different, but I would go with your own feelings that they may not count the Japan stuff. |

Thanks for the replies. Chopstix, BTW how recent was your interview?
Something else also just occurred to me - does the public/state school experience have to be teaching English?
Mine from the UK is teaching modern languages, which I would argue is closer to teaching English to non-native speakers than teaching English to native speakers of the language is. So I would hope that would be considered and rewarded, but does anyone know for sure? |

I have been offered a pair of schools and was asked to accept or reject. I
I accepted subject to me seeing what salary I would get.
Then I receive an email from Hong Kong asking that I get a Statement of
Service 'redone' from a language school I worked with, fulltime, for five
years.
I assume this means that employment with a 'Language school' counts for teaching service time.
Goodness this NET thing is a process.
I had my interview last May.
