JR pass is the best deal going by far. You can see all the major parts of Japan for about the same price of a return shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto!
You can ride any shinkansen with a JR pass except the Nozomi I think. At least that was the case last year.
For those of you on working visas unable to get the super sweet JR pass there's an uber-cheap local train pass. This is valid on all local trains anywhere in Japan for up to a month and the use is completely unlimited.
It's a great way to travel Japan and the rail staff can even give you a fully timetabled route of all the destinations you want to visit. |
