Hmm well I don't know as I've never been to Korea or worked there. I suppose you can feel safe that the North Koreans won't be marching down the peninsula over here |

What is a standard salary for an English teacher in Korea? I mean entry level with a BA. Just curious. |

Just checked the xe.com website -
250000 JPY = 2,106 USD
2000000 KRW = 2,076 USD
Basically, that usual quarter million yen salary per month is worth little more than 2 million won. When I consider how much I pay for housing, deposits, transportation and the like, plus the fact that I`ve had to buy a fridge and washer, as well as lights in the ceiling just to get started (none of which I had to get in Korea) I`m beginning to get the chills about what I can really save here.
Downside is, in Korea you can be ripped off so easily by the boss. Here overall, people seem more honest.
Is this bothering anyone? I`m sure in most Western currencies, the won and yen are getting close together as far as basic salaries are concerned. But the won buys so much more... |
I made the 2,000,000 in Korea. Does it bother me that the exchange rate isn't as good with the yen? Not at all. I came to Japan because my wage inproved substancially, and I was taken care of personally. Had this not been the case, I probably would've stayed in Korea. The money is at a Korean hagwon is better than at your average eikaiwa.
If it's all about the money, and you're working in an language factory, then Korea is the better deal. That's just the way it is right now. |

Despite all the expenses, I feel good that I can depend on my conract being upheld. |
I'm glad you feel that way... so did I until I got screwed. PaulH has some good advice on Japanese contract disputes, perhaps you should talk to him.
Anyway, I highly doubt that a contract exists in Japan that does NOT contain illegal clauses.
There's a forum I started called "What's a Japanese Contract Worth", perhaps you should look there as well.
Good Luck |

Holy triple post batman.
Anyway, if you have a proper contract and visa you have a lot more stability than Keith did when he got "screwed" so his experience isn't exactly a good measure. |
