Hey guys, I am heading back to Japan in July. I won't be working, but will be staying for six months. I was going to do they working holiday thing but the embassy tell me you can't get one if you have a kid. So I was thinking I would just stay for a few months go to Korea before the 90 days are up and then return, has anyone got experience of this?

Upon entering you need an onward ticket don't you?

The standard immigration procedure requires you to have a departing ticket, but it doesn't need to be by airplane. You can, for instance, have a boat ticket to Korea.

Legally, you can leave Japan and re-enter for another 90 days, but immigration has been strict, lately, because of over-stayers and illegal workers. It's best not to do your travelling through Narita, if possible.

Any mention of work will result in you not being able to enter the country. You might, also, need to provide receipts proving that you are actually participating in tourism. It depends on whether or not the immigration is having a bad day.

Good luck!

I have not heard of this restriction before, but nobody I know on half a dozen forums has asked.

I would suspect that you are permitted to enter, but it is your child who cannot because he cannot be a dependent under your visa status. Just a guess, though.
