Hi

I graduated last year with a 2:1 in Events Management and am registered to complete my TEFL course in June. Having recently graduated I am obviously in substantial debt and therefore after reading around this message board I am under the impression that my best move would be to either Vietnam, Taiwan or Korea in order to be able to live a decent standard of life and still be able to pay off debt back home.

With job oportunities apparently rife in Korea I have been leaning towards Korea but I keep coming accross a lot of negative feedback recently too which has been making me somewhat apprehensive! Im i right in feeling this way?? If I do come to korea what are the nicest places? I sent off yesterday for some information and was practically offered a job in Cheonan City is it that easy to find work??? Whats Cheonan City like???

Also my main concern at the moment is that I have just recently been arrested for something ridiculous and am probably going to end up with a criminal conviction for assault and criminal damage!! Will this go against me???? Ive never been in trouble before and am generally very placid in nature but I am worried it will affect my chances of employment as a EFL teacher and my visa application.

Anyone help?????

Also where are the best opportunities in Taiwan, with regards to employment and quality of life??? i am not really keen on living in a huge city as I am already escaping one of those but I dont want to be out in't sticks as they say either!

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated on either Korea, Taiwan or the CRB check

Thanks

D

What the heck is a "2:1"? I have never heard of that before - is it some kind of degree or diploma?

I think the best advice for those countries will be the individual forums. From what I understand, Korea will give the best chance to bank some money - but the teaching there is often less than desirable. Taiwan is somewhat better teaching-wise, but the pay seems to be less (although you can still bank good coin if you try).

I can't answer the legal question - that sounds more like a question for a lawyer than the likes of us!

Some countries require a clear criminal record for the visa application, unfortunately.

A 2:1 is an "upper second (class)" honours degree in England (and maybe elsewhere).

Ok which don't then in that case!!!! Smile

Feedback on pm's suggests I might be alright with this charge but I guess i'll just find out when I apply!! When would I find out though, I mean if a school offered me a position and I accept it would the visa be accepted prior to departure from the UK?

Anyone any answers to Taiwan Vs Korea?????

In Turkey they don't require the criminal record when applying for a visa.
If you want to be legal before you get "there", the school will ask for a number of documents to start the application process in their country. It might be advisable, in your case, to find out which papers are necessary to obtain a work visa before you book a plane ticket...

Yeah

The school have asked for my degree cert and photos etc but not a lot else at the moment! Will they process the CRB before I arrive?

I would rather know before hand whether this will affect my chances of employment so I can plan accordingly rather than find out 1 month in to my contract and be swiftly deported!! Should I be honest with my potential employer and let them know my situation, being that it was just a 'one off' out of character incident??

I cant belive this has the potential to ruin my plans!!!! What a nightmare!!!

However faint heart never won fair maid as my good friend says so I shall still craic on with my TEFL this coming month and see what happens!

You know, I've read a lot about countries pulling criminal records but never heard a mention of what criteria would bar someone from working. I wouldn't say anything...I suspect most countries are just checking if you are a child molester or have open warrants.
