I read all these posts from people looking at, or working in private schools
with small classes/groups of students who actually want to be there. Now,
am I the only one who works in a public high school with classes from
12 to 37 most of whom definitely do NOT want to be there. We'll won't
mention the bureaucracy and long and boring rady (today's was only
four hours) for now. Maybe I'm just looking for someone to commiserate
with. Any takers?

Now I'm trying private schools.

I used to work for a public school in the US. I understand. Really, I do. I quit after I was hit by a student and the school refused to support my position- suggesting pursuing criminal charges since the kid was only 17 and only outweighed me by 50 lbs. or so and stood a good 8 inches taller. Who did I think I was to 'defend myself'?

Try to enjoy it. It could be worse!

I, too, did some public school time (jr. high special ed., no less) in the States. That was a challenge!! No fights, just one Ss hands on my throat,
but only once. I left not because of the kids but a back-stabbing supervisor.
Here, it's mostly the bureaucracy and hoop-jumping that is getting to me.
Problem is that, as you know, the hoops change every year. Maybe I have
an overinflated estimation of my (our) value as willing native-speakers but
does it really need to be so difficult to stay here and work legally?
I'm off to the kuratorium on Wednesday for the next round.

Hi, I'm hoping to be in Poland soon, and I am curious about two terms you used that I do not know. Please tell me what "...long and boring rady" and "...off to the kuratorium" mean. Thank you!

One is easy the other impossible.
rady is the plural of rada meaning anything from advice to council (as in
city council). Here it refers to rada pedagogniczna or teachers' meeting.
Kuratorium, as nearly as I can figure out, is the office at the county level
which has control of the secondary schools in that county.
Scottydawg, are you planning to work in public schools here? If so, be
prepared to deal with one of the most confusing and changeable bureaucracies in the world. For example, my current challenge is to get
a nostrification (another new word meaning something like verification/
approval) of my US BA. Usually a university department would do that, but
none can/will. Soon I must travel to the Kuratorium to see what my next
step is. About 3 years ago, the number of counties in Poland was reduced from 48 to 16. Consequently, some offices of some departments are in
the old capital city and some in the new.
It really is fun!
