I obtained an EMAIL from my uni today telling me that they are not offering the CELTA along side my degree in TESOL instead they will offer us the TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test)! Is this the end of the world??? I've always thought that the CELTA is bare min!!
Can someone help?? My dream is to get the DELTA and become a DOS in Japan or Western Europe!!!

| Stop your snivelling, it's an embarrassment. If you are getting a degree in TESOL then why do you need a CELTA? Most people will apply for one independently. |

They dont have DOS in Japan but assistant managers and a majority have no more than a BA to their name.
Having a CELTA can be bad for business. |

It doesn�t work like that in many (mostly European) countries.
The British Council and International House basically run a cartel when it comes to ELT qualifications. As a result the British Council and accredited schools will not consider you without a CELTA, even if you have a BA/MA/Phd in TEFL or Applied Linguistics.
It is a sad state of affairs when a teacher with years of experience and an MA in TEFL is passed over for a non-graduate with a CELTA. But that�s the way cartels work. Pay the cash for the CELTA and you�re in.
Of course with an MA or Phd you could probably get a better job than working in a private language school anyway. Still very annoying though. |
