Hi, I'm Felicia, new here...
I've played with the idea of teaching English in Latin America for nearly 4 years, and this January is when I'm intending on making my move (I need lots of time to save security money, lol). I've decided that I'll head to Mexico and take a ESL teacher training course, I've read a lot about Teachers Latin America and thought I'd like to take their ESL cert...... but here's the dilemma....... I've recently come across a few other ESL cert schools, Advanced English Academy of Canada, in Monterrey and ITTO in Guadalajara.
All three centres seem fine to me and that's why I'm posting my question here. The course that TLA offers is 2 weeks long (75+ hours) and the course that AEAC offers is 4 weeks long (still only 55 hours or so), however the price is the same (accommodations accounted for) I wonder if I should worry about that . The ITTO course (costs a bit more and is well over 100 hours).
Here are links that go directly to each of their course outlines (AEAC looks a bit bare, so right off I'm a bit skeptical....)

TLA was my initial choice but I was wondering if any of you have had experience with any of the others. Also, I think I should mention that I don't have a uni degree and my grammar leaves something to be desired....lol, but I'm workin' on it. Personally I would like to get as much from a course as I can, the more training, theory and practice I receive the better! So, hmm, I guess I want to know where I can get more bang for my buck and food for my brain
thanks so much, any help is massively appreciated
Felicia
PS. Oh one more thing. It is to my understanding that you need a degree to teach in Mexico, so I was wondering if anyone knew of another esl school in another country where their *ahem* qualifications are less strict (business english is fine too, by the way). I was hoping to take an esl course in the country I plan to stick around in.... thanks again. |
