There seem to be alot of rumors about changing qualifications and how teachers without degrees are going to have some trouble in the near future, I'm just wondering if anyone can actually confirm that things like this have happened. Does anyone know someone who has been denied documents for this reason? What kind of documents are needed when you guys renew your documents each year? Also, what about FTs who already have all their documents? I've got no degree, but I am in posession of a Foreign Expert Card that's been renewed with no problem whatsoever for the past three years. I also was able to have a Z visa issued to me outside the country back in '03 and have never had trouble getting it renewed. I now have the blue Residence Permit for Foreigner sticker in my passport. My school said they'd heard it shouldn't be a problem for people who already have all the essential documents.

The FEC and RP renewal process where I live has always gone smoothly and I've never been asked for a degree or even a CV. My school (a primary school) seems to be well-connected, but I'm still worried about having trouble with my documents (especially since I'm married to a Chinese woman and just recently found out she was pregnant. I'd hate to have to leave because of something like this). I discussed the issue with my school leaders who told me that it wouldn't be a problem. But I'm still worried. Anybody experience some problems with their stuff?

Don't worry about it. There are always rumours going around about changing the requirements for visas. Where are you located? I guess if you are in a wealthier province then the authorities might be a little stricter, but if you are out in one of the less well off provinces then they would be more relaxed about the requirements. No matter where you are you already have got the residence permit and the school seems to be well connected then you are fine.

When my first school renewed my residence permit they only needed my passport, foreign expert certificate and the signed contract. Actually when they first got the residence permit I wasn't asked to show my degree.

Relax, you'll get the residence permit renewed without any hassles.

The qualifications are NOT changing.

REPEAT -

THE QUALIFICATIONS ARE NOT CHANGING!

Simply stated, many schools, particularly government schools, are under increasing pressure to implement the decades old qualification standards.

Just like what Malsol said, the qualifications are not changing but they are just implementing it strictly now.

I used to work in Zhanjiang, Guangdong and had heard from teachers who applied for a FEC this year that they were denied due to their requirements.

Teacher A was denied due to she's from a non-native speaking country (Uzbekhistan). She has a bachelor's degree with a year teaching experience. She was able to get a visa teaching last school year but not this term as she took a term off before returning to China to be with her husband who got a FEC even if he's from the same country but he applied last August.

Teacher B & C are from America. She has a bachelor's degree but no 2 years teaching experience. She was also denied of a FEC.
