İts that time of year isn't?Are we gonna stay or are they gonna tell us its time to move on,regardless of how we tried to fit in it just hasn't worked out ,sound familair?Only been here a couple of years and already the tension is starting to take its toll .The more I look deeper into the whole thing the harder it seems if I will stay even if I want to .
The thing is, that there is no or very little transparacy here in management so one never knows whats going on behind closed doors , or who is saying what about who .I've never been any good at crawling ,just not me really, but I can spin as much B.S as the next one ,but all this insincerity and giving face just to curry favor with the bosses is something I can't stomach .It seems to the casual observer (yours truly) that the bigger yalaka you are thats the way to get on in the work place .Sadly the ones who are good at this are not really good at anything else . Comments on this one invited .Am I alone in this predicament or is it par for the course ? More than anything its the one thing thats gonna make me go somewhere else ,only please tell me its not the same where you are .

Par for course. I think I will go.

Making its way round our office is this handy clash tune...

Darling you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go
If you say that you are mine
I'll be here 'til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go
It's always tease, tease, tease
You're happy when I'm on my knees
One day is fine and next it's black
So if you want me off your back
Well, come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go

Should I stay or should I go now
Should I stay or should I go now
If I go there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know

This indecision's bugging me
Esta undecision me molesta
If you don't want me set me free
Si no me quieres, librame
Exactly whom I'm supposed to be
Diga me que tengo ser
Don't you know which clothes even fit me
Seves que robas me querda
Come on and let me know
Me lo tienes que desir
Should I cool it or should I blow
Me debo ir o quedarme

Should I stay or should I go now
Yo me enfrio o lo sophlo
Should I stay or should I go now
Yo me enfrio o lo sophlo
If I go there will be trouble
Si me voy va a haber peligro
And if I stay it will be double
Si me quedo es doble
So you gotta let me know
Me lo tienes que desir
Should I cool it or should I blow
Yo me enfrio o lo sophlo

{Repeat, minus first couplet}

I am in a completely different country, teaching in the state school system and it's exactly the same over here.

Ahhhhh, I remember it well...the Turkish teachers walking on egg shells...the fake smiles...good times...good times...

I didn't play. I don't B.S.... (on purpose! Laughing ) A Turkish teacher took me aside and whispered to me that she was being a friend to me and if I wanted to work there again I should be extra careful. It was spring afterall and that was the time of year they (Cue horror film music) decided who would return.

About trying to do the job to the best of your abilities? Teacher development? Naaaaaahh! About the quality of the BS and how you played that game... I exited stage left. It was one of my better decisions...

I think this thread has the makings of being a good one ,the topic suggests that all is not well in tefl land ,not just on a local or national level ,but on a global scale .I certainly agree with the idea that those in positions of power or at least assumed power are the last people who should have it . However ,they seem to be able to get the ear of those with the real power and as a result makes life for the rest of us uncomfortable at best ,hell at worst .I'm talking about the crawlers who tell tales out of school so to speak just to ingriate themselves with their superiors they usually are the least able person at the job but they have perfected the art of "BROWN NOSİNG" therfore they rarely get burned as they have the right people on their side .

Wow, I know I'm usually a little out of the loop, but who's walking on eggshells? Are all you eggshell walkers Dersani (sp?) people?

It's always been painfully clear for me (and those around me) by this time of year whether or not things are going well. (I once had 2 HODs at the same time, and one stopped speaking to me, actually, in March. But the other one and I got along fine). And, primary schools always want foriegn teachers, so deciding to "go" is never hard to do, but also some times your co-workers are cool, so deciding to "stay" sometimes is nice, too... But by May everyone is pretty clear. No eggshells needed.
But the song rocks. Had no idea he was born in Ankara. wow.

I don't know why it is but all the year I get the feeling someone is watching me !
When you get letters coming your way for no real reason ,someone just love to play mind games ,cures the boredom at least .
