I see much has been written on drugs in the Taiwan forums but I could not find an answer to the following:

I realize the penalties for drug (read: marijuana) use in Taiwan are harsh and, as such, I do not intend to use any for the duration of my stay there. - They were never very integral to my social life anyway. But here's the thing: I've heard police can bust clubs at anytime and demand you submit to a drug test. While I could easily pass a urine test, a hair test can register drug use that occured months ago. Could I be charged in Taiwan for something I (hypothetically) did several months before landing on the island?

I understand this scenario is possible in Indonesia. Maybe I'll skip Bali.

Is this a sincere question? When will you be coming here? Have you stopped using already? If you are concerned at all about busts or failing drug tests, simply stay clean long enough to pass them. I doubt police would go as far as to demand a hair test if they busted a night club. They would be more interested in what you had on you at that moment or what you may have used that night. Something used several months ago would not have much relevence. But if you are worried, stay away from night clubs or places where drugs might be in use until you are sure every cell is clean. It might be better to stay away from such places anyway, but that's just my opinion. However, I haven't heard of anyone being tested for consumtion that may have taken place months ago.

Crack can sure make one paranoid. Shave your head if you are so worried. But seriously, this is amongst the most inane questions I've heard. They don't even test for drug use when they draw your blood for your Work Permit physical. Chill out man.

Not so outlandish as they actually do this in Singapore and I remember last year two locals coming home from the states and being tested and getting three years for something they two weeks previously in a country thousands of miles away.

Herbs can react positive to a hair test for up to six weeks though a piss test will clear after a couple of weeks. The class A drugs all clear after a couple of days. The Taiwanese are little devils for the crystal meth mind, more than weed, though the law enforcement dosent seem to differentiate between the two when it comes to making a nuiscance of themselves. Ketamine is also widely used in the club scene which leads to some funny sights I can tell you.
