I'm in a public high school in the boonies and the only foreigner in the school and town. The gates are locked at 10:40 p.m. If I know I'll be out past then, I let the guard know and give him an approximate time and he lets me in. This is the same for Chinese teachers. If i wasn't expecting to be out late, I grab a hotel. The hotel I use in the nearest city knows me and I don't need my passport to check in. No other restrictions. Overnight guests are no problem. The guards are more suspicious of men and let women come and go. I'm not sure if students are allowed in the apartments because I don't allow it. I will see them after hours, but not in my flat.
